Pingyao

Pingyao is an ancient city in the central Shanxi settlement of China. The city is famed for its well-preserved Ming and Qing architecture. Take a walk on the city wall of Pingyao stretching over 6 kilometers and standing at a height of 12 meters. The wall resembles a tortoise, a symbol of longevity. Visit the Qiao family compound located around 30 kilometers from Pingyao. The compound has more than 300 rooms, several gardens, and courtyards. Take a peek into ancient Chinese relics at the Qixian folk museum situated in the compound. See ancient carvings and statues at the Shuanglin temple, an important cultural monument of Pingyao. Feast on Pingyao beef, a popular dish served in most restaurants. Other local delicacies include knife-cut noodles, fried eggplant, and Wantuo - steamed wheat stirred in chili sauce.
