Ruse

Ruse is the largest Bulgarian city on the Danube river and a great destination for a one-day trip from Bucharest. Get to know the bearings of the city at Museum Baba Tonka, a museum that delves deep into the Bulgarian National revival and role of Ruse in the revolutionary struggle. Visit Sexaginta Prista Roman Fortress perched on a hill near the scenic Danube River. The ruins of the fortress dating back to the 3rd century BC display Roman fragments and Thracian artifacts. Visit Svoboda or the liberty square, the grandest square in Ruse. The monument of liberty is an artistic delight made in 1909 by an Italian sculptor. Discover the artifacts from excavations of the antique Danube castles at the Roussee Regional Historical Museum established in 1904. The museum houses more than 1,00,000 items.
