Toyama

A gateway to the Japanese Alps, Toyama is a bustling city with a stunning coastline and is reputed for its tulips festival held in spring. Watch the majestic white sailing ship of Kaiwo Maru at the popular Kaiwomaru Park and learn about the maritime history at the naval history museum housed in the sailing ship. Marvel at the Great Buddha of Takaoka, one of the three great Buddha statues of Japan. For a fulfilling experience, take a walk on the pathway beneath the base of the Buddha. Enjoy scenic views of Toyama onboard a train ride across the Kurobe Gorge. If you are in Toyama during winters a visit to the Gokayama village is a must. Nestled among the mountains the houses are built in traditional gassho- zukuri fashion known for their thatched steep rooftops. The historic folk village with its snow-capped houses is a sight to behold.
